Anti-TPO (Thyroid Peroxidase Antibody)
What This Test Measures
Detects antibodies against thyroid peroxidase enzyme; elevated in Hashimoto's and Graves' disease.
Preparation
No special prep required, but be aware that thyroid antibody levels naturally FLUCTUATE β they can vary significantly between draws. A single normal result does not definitively rule out Hashimotoβs if clinical suspicion is high. The STTM community notes that any detectable antibodies may be clinically significant, even below the labβs flagged threshold. A TPO Ab of 30 IU/mL may be βnegativeβ by lab standards but represent early autoimmune activity. Retest every 3β6 months when tracking interventions. These notes reflect common practices in thyroid/functional medicine communities.
